Mission

Find out about the many years of experience of JOYCE-CF as an observatory for cloud and precipitation evolution.

Central goals of JOYCE are:

  • High-resolution and state-of-the-art cloud and precipitation observations using instrument synergy
  • Standardized and documented operation procedures for cloud and precipitation research
  • Centralized access for external users to instruments, operation and observation platforms
  • Easy and open access to database and observations of all instruments
JOYCE-CF
Rainer Haseneder-Lind/Jülich Observatory for Cloud Evolution (JOYCE)

JOYCE-CF is based on a successful collaboration between the University of Cologne, the University of Bonn and Forschungszentrum Jülich starting more than a decade ago.
In 2017, JOYCE has been promoted to a Core Facility (JOYCE-CF) funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) with the aim of high-quality radar and passive microwave observations of the atmosphere.
In this context, JOYCE will serve as a reference center for best practices in data acquisition, quality control, storage and distribution. As a Core Facility, JOYCE-CF offers researchers free access to a synergistic set of state of the art measurements for the investigation of cloud and precipitation processes. JOYCE-CF also welcomes additional installations and supports campaign requests.

Further information on the general structure, goals and tasks of JOYCE-CF can be found in the JOYCE-CF user guide.
